Scream 7 Confirmed To Be In Development

The production of Scream 7 has begun, and a new director will be in charge. The fan-favorite slasher franchise was revived in 2022 under the direction of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, a directing team who are a part of the Radio Silence filmmaking collective. Both Scream from 2022 and Scream 6, the franchise’s highest-grossing entry domestically, were directed by them.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Scream 7 is formally moving forward in response to rumors that circulated online earlier in the day. Christopher Landon, the director of popular horror films like Freaky and Happy Death Day, will instead be in charge of directing Scream 7. The group Radio Silence, which also includes producer Chad Villella, will continue to serve as the film’s executive producers.

After hearing the news, Landon responded by posting a photo of Ghostface on Instagram with the message, “Looks like 7 really is a lucky number.”

Why Christopher Landon Is A Solid Choice For The Scream Franchise

With Scream 7, the Scream series’ third director change—a surprisingly small number for such a long-running slasher franchise—comes to an end. The first four films, which were released between 1996 and 2011, were directed by the original Wes Craven. The following two films were directed by Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin. Landon’s presence should nevertheless keep Scream on course, even though it has allowed the series to remain mostly consistent in terms of continuity and audience reception.

Landon has already demonstrated his ability to dissect the slasher genre, a crucial component of the Scream flicks, with his films Happy Death Day and Freaky. He demonstrated his mastery of the fundamental principles of the slasher genre in each of those projects by fusing parts of the traditional slasher with fresh sci-fi subgenres. In these films, he also demonstrates his mastery of the comic and horror tones that must be skillfully mixed in order for a Scream movie to succeed.

Landon has the capacity to frighten moviegoers, even though his most recent films, like Freaky and Netflix’s We Have a Ghost, have a more obviously humorous tone. He demonstrated this in the 2014 film Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which had a small amount of lighthearted humor but mostly concentrated exclusively on the scares that Landon had worked so hard to create as a seasoned screenwriter for the franchise. When Scream 7 can finally start filming, it will be in the hands of a director who is skilled at what he does.
